If you use the DUAL-EXTRUSION (2 extruder) with heated bed to generate or upgrade the printer, all output ports (D8, D9, D10) will be used. In this case, you can not connect the firmware-controlled FAN directly to the RAMPS board. However, there is already an option in the Sprinter / Marlin firmware (Marlin: BOARD = 34) to redirect FAN to RAMPS output D4. But this solution requires a "buffer / driver" to work. RRD-FAN-EXTENDER is exactly what you need in this situation. This is a plug-and-play solution to install the FAN for DUAL-EXTRUSION setting with RAMPS1.4. However, instead of adding only one output port, the RRD-FAN-EXTENDER is equipped with two PWM control channels (D6 / D11). The second channel can be used for another fan (for example, to cool a stepper drive) or for adding light controls (for example, adding a dimmable LED to your machine).
